Why No Gas Line?

Simply put, gas is obsolete. Gas is used for cooking, heating and hot water – all of which can be done with electric. And since you need electricity anyways, it just makes sense to have electricity. And since there are solar panels on the roof, some of the electricity will be generated – therefore reducing the financial impact – and making the building more valuable to the tenant and company.

Gas is a finite resource. If I was to provide gas to my apartment tenants, then I will have a bill that would regularly go up as the supply of gas becomes less available. This makes the building less valuable and while some of the features are built into the building, other features are not. If I had to sell because the building was no longer profitable, then the new owner may not provide the optional services. Even if you don’t believe in climate change, you can’t argue against economics. A business must make a profit.

Second gas is explosive. If there was a leaking line, and a spark or flame (such as a gas stove), then there will be an explosion which will not only destroy the building with the explosion, but neighboring buildings as well. There was a time that gas was needed, and therefore an acceptable risk. This no longer applies. Gas is simply too dangerous for me to accept unnecessary risks.
