Why Have SROs?

Simply put, there are some people that are waiting for Section-8. If they are waiting for it, their rent is likely unaffordable, and may either be homeless or close to facing eviction. An SRO is intended to help people in those situations. An SRO is not supported by Section-8, but the rent will be as affordable as possible. The rent for the SRO will be $750. Someone on SSI will be able to afford this if they have no other choice. Their SNAP benefits will increase therefore allowing for coverage of the food even if they don’t have a means of cooking their food. Since all of the utilities are included (except telephone) with the SRO, then this should make it a better choice than a homeless shelter.
