Telephone

You are responsible for your telephone services. You are likely currently using a cellular phone which your telephone service fits inside your pocket. You can continue to use that phone service when you move to FSP Realty. If you do not have telephone services yet, you would be required to have telephone services to rent with FSP Realty. This is because FSP Realty will use your telephone number to call you when reaching you would be imperative.

Verizon is the POTS (Plain Ordinary Telephone System) provider for the city of Pittsburgh. Verizon will not support your location. Simply put, Verizon is dismantling the POTS service lines. This is because there aren’t enough POTS customers to warrant keeping the service alive. If you are in need of an home phone line, you have a couple of options. If you aren’t technically savvy, you can acquire a VOIP provider such as Ooma or Vonage for terrestrial telephone service. They will send you an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) which you would plug your ordinary telephone into the ATA, then you would plug the ATA into one of the many available RJ45 jacks. The service will then work much like any other telephone service, and since there is a battery bank for your unit, if the power goes out, your internet and phone service will still remain operational. If you are technically savvy, you would be able to acquire your own ATA, or Wifi Phone. You would set up with a SIP provider such as Callcentric or Localphone.com. You would just receive your credentials, log into your SIP Device, and provide those credentials. Once the device reboots, you would have phone service. I personally use a Wifi Phone for my home phone line, and don’t regret it. It is just one electrical plug rather than 2.
